Each spring the North Dakota League of Cities sponsors a statewide Mayor for a Day essay contest. This contest encourages young people to think about public service and future community leadership. As in the past, the contest is open to any third and seventh grade student living in North Dakota. This year, we will also have a contest for seventh grade students. Each grade will be judged separately and two winners will be chosen. The students can submit essays on their own or through their school. We still encourage teachers to have their student’s complete essays and submit them as they have done in the past, but we will also accept essays from students that may not be offered the opportunity in their classroom. The winners will be announced during City Government week in April. If you have questions or need additional information, please contact Carissa Richter or at 701-223-3518 or via email email@example.com or at www.ndlc.org/essay.
